No more antipasto table at Vinny's at Night

I went to Vinny's at Night in Somervile on Thursday night and was surprised to find that they no longer have the antipasto table, although it's still on the menu. They did offer an antipasto platter. We didn't order it, so I can't report on it.

We asked the waiter about the antipasto table, and he said that it was too expensive to maintain and not enough people ordered it, so they wasted a lot of food.

I hope this isn't a sign that Vinny's is struggling. The food quality was very good, as always, especially the homemade mafalde pasta and anything with tomato sauce. I had the veal chop, which had a delicous sauce, with mushrooms and sundried tomatoes. I thought the meat was fattier and less tasty than when I've had it before.

That's a real shame - for me, the antipasto table was what made Vinny's a true standout. It was by far my favorite thing to eat at the restaurant. The combination of antipasti was unique among the Italian restaurants in Boston.

i don't recall if the antipasto table was available when we were there back in may.

the meal was a big disappointment. i don't recall what my DCs had, but I\i i had the osso buco and with what they were trying to pass off as risotto -- a few grains of rice floating around in a flavorless sauce.

      we don't plan to return.

A few grains of rice? It's difficult to believe that is an accurate description. Did you alert your wait person or the manager?

The antipasto platter is just fine from my experiences. it was previously an assortment of items off the antipasto table, so it will be interesting to see what it consists of now.

sadly, "a few grains of rice" was all too accurate a description.

perhaps they were understaffed or just having a bad night, but the indifference of the staff the night we were there was palpable -- did i mention we had a groupon?

Not surprised, ever since they went the groupon route, they've really gone downhill. Sad, cus I liked them.

I've always had great meals there, but the negative chatter seemed to start in my mind after the restaurant was featured in a Globe review a few years back.
