Urbann Turbann (Berkeley)

Today's Groupon is for Urbann Turbann (silly name) on Euclid. I've never heard of it. Is it any good? How are the wraps?

Non-functioning website, closed Saturday and Sunday -- very annoying! Ended up with my first La Val's pizza in at least a decade.

      How was the LaVal's pizza?

For that kind of pizza, I prefer Lanesplitter--that's why I hadn't had La Val's in so long. It wasn't bad, though -- the crust was thicker and chewier than I prefer, but the sauce had that very specific pizza parlor flavor that is irresistible every once in a while. The toppings we got (roasted red pepper, Kalamata olives and sausage) were neither here nor there. I wonder if the Euclid pizza is better than the take out on San Pablo -- that's what I was getting before I discovered Lanesplitter. In any case, I grew up on Euclid and went there often, so there's the nostalgia factor, too.

The Groupon included sodas, so I decided to pass. I might try the place though. The different chutneys sound interesting and the ingredients seem fairly high quality. Maybe in nicer weather I'll get takeout for a picnic at the Rose Garden. Walk off the calories.

Lots of food for the price, so if you're going for calories, the groupon should be a great deal. The food is like a Califonia-ized, fresh veggie, roti. Think of it like an Indian-American chipotle. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there, but it's probably the best food on Euclid.

Yelp gives it 4 stars...given the student demographic, might be worth checking it out, if you're near.
