New Years Eve early dinner, fresh ideas?

The question is side dishes or a second main course.

I want something with wow factor and great taste. It could be anything veg/starch/seafood, doesn't matter.

Making an early dinner for my girlfriend, best friend and his girlfriend. Since we plan on raising Jameson's stock by a couple points I'm going with steak. That always makes me feel like a million bucks in the morning. Definite hangover cure if you're thinking ahead.

Here's what's already hitting the plate:

I have the steaks marinating in soy, honey, olive oil, garlic, ginger, and onion. Both my friend and I have gotten into the habit of eating avocado slices with red meat.

I have a full kitchen and collected most every tool for it over the years(ran out of tools to buy for the garage).

Gimme your best ideas I'll reply with a picture of what I end up going with.

Happy New Years!

Lobster is always a wow, even if only boiled with butter. Try cutting them up, cleaning them, and baking with bread crumbs, covered with foil and a small amount of white wine.

A good white Rhone wine is a delicious complement.

I'll check with my friend's lady on lobster, Where would you say is a good place in NOVA/DC to get a young white Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Just had a very serviceable Domaine de la Janasse fro MacArthur for about $20. Complex blend mostly grenache and clairette, full bodied with nice glycerine, both dry and fruity.
