How to upload a photo?
Could anyone explain to me how to place a photo to a thread on home cooking?
I have an iphone 5 and have a photo of a lemon tart and don't have any idea how to get it onto CH.
Is there a "simple" explanation? (If so many others are able to do this, I think I should be able to, too!!!)
Thanks.

This is an experiment; I'm hoping I have figured out how to upload a photo from my computer (still working on iphone technique). If it works, it's a picture of the dessert Brooke made on Top Chef Seattle, Finale, part one.

re: iL Divo
Hi iL Divo.
After posting, you have a two-hour window to edit your post. Once you click the Edit button, you should have the option to delete the photo(s) that you uploaded. (If you're not seeing a Delete button, let us know.)
The other option is to go to your profile page (click on your name at the top right of any page on Chowhound) and under the My Activity tab there is a Photos subhed. Click on that, and you can delete photos from there.
Hope that helps!

Do you see the camera icon when you type in your post? Uploading directly from IPhone 5 is a new feature.

re: walker
Dunno if anyone else is having this problem but I really can't post photos in any useful way anymore. Tried yesterday and today. It won't pick up some pix at all, says some aren't there when they clearly are in my folder, and duplicates others randomly without showing them as dupes before I hit reply. Plus it takes forever to actually post, which is not a new problem but seems worse than before the site changes.

re: fourunder
Maybe it's a bug, maybe not, but it's really discouraged me from posting on my last trip to SF and my recent one to TO. Not that missing photos would be the end of the world, I guess, but I think even my extremely amateur attempts add some visual appeal to longish posts on gastro-holidays.

re: walker
Hi walker.
You can hit the photo upload field OR the red camera button. Either one will produce the same result: a window will open for you to select where to upload your photo from. After you select a photo, the name of that file will appear in the photo upload field. Once you hit Reply, the photo will be uploaded to your post.
For users having trouble uploading photos, could you provide very specific info on what type of device you're using, what version of the operating system, and what browser and version of the browser? This will help us track down any issues.
Thank you, and happy new year!

re: grayelf
Hi grayelf. Thanks for being flexible on your choice of browser; we're glad you're having more success with Safari. Turns out for IE8 the photo upload is quite buggy, as you reported. Unfortunately, we're no longer going to be supporting IE8. As is the standard policy for many online properties, we'll only be supporting the two most recent versions of browsers, so in this case IE9 and IE10. (See also Google's announcement that they will no longer support IE8: http://www.computerworld.com/s/articl...) Many of the same bugs often turn up in IE9, so fixes there will frequently take care of IE8. But in the case of photo upload, we do recommend using a different browser. Thanks again for being flexible.

I don't know how to do it on a telephone, but if you can send it to your email address and download it to your computer, then you can sign in on chowhound on your computer and retrieve the file to attach to the thread you want to share the picture on.
That's how I do it. I do not know why, but I cannot use a USB cable to directly load onto my computer....
