Been to Galley twice, about a year ago. Great old fashioned vibe, but the food is very pedestrian.

I prefer "My Diner" when I need that kind of food in Southie. On "A" Street, a couple blocks northeast of B'way

My Diner is attached to the Willams Tavern (aka Dirty Bills) which everyone should experience at least once.

I like Muls, myself.

Rondo's is one of the better steak and cheeses in the area, in my opinion. Galley is still there and a great dive/ diner! I've only had breakfast there, but it's been good every time. I love a breakfast spot with kielbasa!

Galley is still there and was featured on Bourdain's "No Reservations"

As MC pointed out, Belle Isle isn't in Southie.

Haven't been to Galley. I'd call Rondo's a decent sub shop, based on a visit a few years ago. Belle Isle is in Winthrop, an outstanding local fish market and counter-service seafood place (great lobster roll, for one), though I haven't visited it since it moved across the bridge from Eastie recently.
