NJ/NY hounds in Austin for 2 nights - real deal experience

My husband and I are making a last minute trip to Austin this weekend. Looking for the real deal Austin experience. Franklins for lunch is already on our bucket list - we don't want anything we can get back home ( 86 sushi, Chinese, pizza, Italian etc. - even tho Uchiko looks tempting) what we are really looking for is TexMex, Mex and BBQ - like I said Franklins is already on our list, I'd love someplace with amazing Mole and I've got a real hankering for some pork green chile! We are staying at Hotel San Jose on S. Congress - something in walking distance would be ideal but I've been known to travel a great distance for food. So all suggestions are welcome.

I'd vote for El Alma for non-Tex-Mex Mex. Their duck mole is excellent.

I loved Sam"s BBQ, but it's not for the faint at heart...only the serious BBQ enthusiasts . I recently saw a segment on a place called Luke's Inside Out that seemed interesting. Austin may be the Food Truck capital of the USA....is that something you are looking for?

I agree with the Sam's rec and also the warning about it not being for everyone. Food trucks would also be fun, but DON'T go to Luke's...it's meh.
