San Francisco Baking Institute Cease and Desist

Last night the news started to trickle into my various inboxes. This morning unleashed a torrent of appeals to sign the petition of support to stay open . But few details about the actual issue.

      Yes, that was me, I have no idea why it got removed and Cnet's office was closed when I tried to call. Anyways, see my reply above (or below?), hopefully this illuminates the situation slightly.

        Read the posting guidelines, they're pretty clear about the limited things businesses can post about.

          Per the Chron, "Much ado about nothing." SBAI dropped a $19,000, 18-week baking course in favor of two-week courses that cost under $2500, making the school eligible for an exemption.

    2. Maybe they somehow missed the creation of the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education in 2010 and didn't get their paperwork in? The site shows 15 other schools that offer baking programs.

      1. Hello all,
        My name is Juliette Lelchuk and I have been a teacher at SFBI for almost 4 years.

        The overview of the situation is that all we're trying to do is renew a previously existing license, and yet we received an order to halt all operations while the application is pending. We've been actively trying to comply with the law since at least January '12, and we have documentation of that. We've paid the fees, etc. We are making all efforts to be in compliance with all laws governing small business, educational institutions, and so forth.

        The support has been pouring in over the last 24 hours, and we are continuing to reach out to everyone possible, including forums, blogs, FB, local media affiliates, and our district assembly person for the CA government.

        That's the scoop from here at SFBI, thanks for posting here on Chowhound. Every bit of publicity will help us!

          Who are you accredited by? I can't find anything on your web site about accreditation.

          2. Does this mean Thorough Bread Cafe might close? That's one of my favorite bakeries.
