Los Angeles Dish of the Month (Jan 2013) - Nominations

It's time to choose a Dish of the Month for Los Angeles for January 2013
The idea is this: choose a 'Dish of the Month' for the LA area and then collectively try as many versions of this dish as possible, reporting back with details and photos. It's great to talk about places you've been in the past, but the idea is to explore new places and make new discoveries.
The dish that gets chosen might be something very specific (minestrone soup, xiao long bao) but might also be more of a dish category (stuffed pasta dishes, Asian fried chicken). It's up to the users, but it probably makes sense to choose something that locals are excited about trying and finding the best versions! In SF, the dish of the month inspired a few Chowdowns so people could try the dish together....hopefully this can happen in LA too!
This is the nomination thread for January 2013…you can nominate as many dishes as you want, but once we do the voting thread (which will start on December 29), it will be one vote per user.
To nominate a dish, post it in ALL CAPS in the responses below. This thread will be open until December 28th.

Another note: I am looking for a volunteer who is based in LA who would like to take over this nomination/voting/counting process for Dish of the Month. Thanks for the nominations. I think that fried chicken could work great, but the other three are probably a bit too broad.
For me, a dish is a combination of an ingredient and a preparation. So, fried chicken is a great example...chicken (ingredient), fried (preparation).
I do think it would be great to choose something in January that's a bit easier to find/consume than roast chicken or bbq brisket....but I'm worried going too broad (soup, salad) defeats the purpose here.
I would personally suggest aiming for something that is widely available and easy to eat both on your own and with others. I think this is a better strategy to increase participation than choosing something very broad, and I think it will be way more useful.
I'd much rather see reports about fried chicken from two different places than 1 review of tomato soup and another review of chicken soup.

I realize I don't live in LA, which is why I won't be participating in the voting thread, but here are some ideas that have come up elsewhere. Feel free to second these if you want to see any of them go on to voting:

Your nominations are great nonetheless, so perhaps you could save them and re-nominate them for the March Dish of the Month, which I will start a thread for in probably a couple of weeks.
So be sure to look for a post asking for March nomination towards the end of February.
