New laws about food for the new year (2013)?

How about a list of new laws for the upcoming year regarding food, restaurants, etc. in your state, city, county, etc., or country.

  1. Do you mean ones that are being introduced - or ones we'd like to see introduced?

In that case, as far as I can see there's no new legislation about to be introduced which is going to affect me. That said, the Food Standards Agency is currently undertaking consultations about a range of issues which, presumably, may well result in future legislation. The main areas appear to be about:

        - labelling country of origin and provenance information on fresh & frozen meat

        - label declarations where added water to meat and fisheries products exceed 5%

        - label declaration of date of freezing meat

        - there are also ongoing consultations over how nutrition information is presented on labels.

Interesting. I presume this is in the UK, right?
          Thanks.

Yes. Although oddly, there only seems to be consultations underway in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (food safety being the responsibility of the three regional legislatures). Can't see anything about England - perhaps it's already concluded and is awaiting legislation

    1. No smoking in restaurants. We must be the last place on the planet for this one.

Are you in Texas (as I am assuming from your name)? If so, I guess I won't be visiting Texas any time soon. I had no idea.

Where are you? And what does the law say?

        2. In Israel there have been all sorts of issues regarding how kashrut certificats are determined. The latest wrinkle being that food stores/restaurants would have their kosher certificat revoked if they had Christmas trees in them.

          1. Menus with prices posted by law in the windows of ALL restaurants, like they do in Italy.

              What jurisdiction passed this law?

I wrote this before you answered Harters up above. I thought you were asking about "ones we'd like to see introduced" as Harters had asked up above. Nevermind.

                  My fault.

English was, and is, my second language.
