Quick report from Dumpling Kitchen on Taraval [San Francisco]

Got some takeout dumplings for a Christmas Day lunch, and thought they were pretty decent. Beijing boiled pork dumplings had thin wrappers and came with a slightly sweet dipping sauce. Wontons with chili oil weren't quite what I was expecting... They weren't really spicy, but the peanut based dressing was smooth and tasty, and the wontons themselves had thin slippery wrappers and nice firm pork filling. Very satisfying despite the lack of any real spice

This is my first attempt at loading pictures straight from my phone into Chowhound. Finally made the upgrade to ios6 :)

    1. #13 wonton in chili oil (10 pieces) is fantastic. You wouldn't expect a peanut chili sauce, based on the dish's name. Similar to Dave MP's experience, this dish is mildly spicy; the chili oil complements the peanut in the sauce. The pork is flavorful and generous, resulting in a perfect ratio of meat to wrapper. The wrapper soaks up the sauce. Wonton heaven.
