Nobu Malibu Xmas Eve

My son's Xmas wish is to go to Nobu Malibu for Xmas Eve. Any dishes anyone recommend? Omakase? Thanks and have a very Happy Holidays.

My son couldn't of been happier. In addition to sushi we had their Spicy Seafood Soup, Rock Shrimp Tempura with Ponzu, Squid "Pasta" with Light Garlic Sauce, Black Cod with Miso, Albacore Vegas Salsa with Avocado, & Ribeye Steak with Truffle Butter Sauce. New location is beautiful with the crashing ocean right below their patio. Great service. A once a year treat. Happy New Year to all!

That does sound lovely. Lucky son!

Of the dishes you folks tried, are there two or three that you most recommend? Perhaps in terms of what seems most "Nobu"...i.e. dishes that they do well, that can't be found elsewhere at a lower price point.

I'm also curious about the paparazzi-factor. I recall seeing lots of shadowy figures with telephoto lenses skulking around the parking lot at the Malibu Mart location in years past. Is this new location also a celeb-magnet? (I'm not into celeb-spotting myself; just wondering.)

Every dish was a winner and each dish was enough for 3 to share. If I had to pick two it would be the black cod and the rock shrimp tempura & that Rib Eye was great too. Tab ran $90 a person before tip for the 3 of us. On Xmas Eve to my delight there was not a paparazzi in sight. They must of been out stalking Santa.

Oh, I had no idea the dishes were generous in portion. I was thinking they'd be just a few small bites each, and the resulting bill would take a huge bite out of my wallet. Thank you for the intel.

As an aside, I'm glad a restaurant with legit seafood was put in that location. Heaven help us if a Gladstone's or its ilk had seen fit to take it over. Gah.

Sounds like a very similar menu to his Malibu mart location, good to know the miso black cod & rib eye are up to the standards.

Did your price per person include cocktails or wine, btw? Just curious.

No cocktails or wine ordered but we did have a wonderful white chocolate roll dessert with chocolate fudge, butterscotch and raspberry dipping sauces.

So this is a new Malibu location on the ocean side of PCH that replaced the location in the Malibu Country Mart, if so thanks for the heads up ?

          Btw, no toro tartare ???

Correct Kevin. Beautiful new multi-million dollar restaurant built ground up for Nobu jutting over the ocean. About 1/2 mile south of the Malibu Pier. Mr. Chow is about to open in their old location.
