Lorena's Maplewood

How is it possible that we had not been to Lorena’s in over two years. One of the very best restaurants in the entire Metro area, Lorena’s and the brilliant chef – owner Humberto Campos Jr deserve every bit of the accolades they have accumulated over the years.

Some quick notes on our dinner there Friday night with our good friends. My simple descriptions do no justice to the extraordinary food and service at Lorena’s.

Started with a fresh oyster, served with a briny champagne mignon. A real treat. We then had Scottish Salmon Tartar, Roasted Organic Beets, Warm Mushroom and Crabmeat Crepe and Puree of Butternut Squash Soup. All were delicious and beautifully plated. Entrees were two orders of Free Range Duck Breast, Atlantic Skate Wing Fillet and Roasted Organic Chicken Breast. Perfect preparations and flavors to match.

Desserts are every bit as innovative and tasty. Warm Chocolate With Raspberry Sauce, Espresso Panna Cotta, Apple Tart with Gelato and Warm Pear, Almond and Rum Raisin Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce. What a way to end a meal!.

Service is flawless, the only time you lift a finger is to eat the food yet you barely know the servers are there. Lorena’s is a special restaurant for that special occasion.Located in the heart of Maplewood, here is the website with much more information.

Thanks for your post Tom. I've dined there but once and it was that special.

As my youngest is home on Winter semester break of his senior year - I told him the other day that it will be Lorenas, and not any of the New Brunswick restaurants that we will dine at, the day he walks this May (its a madhouse in town with restaurants at full capacity - truly a let down along the lines of Mothers/Valentines/Christmas Day sit downs). Can't believe that he will be finishing his undergrad studies so soon (and all that I can think of is how he has loved to eat out, be it NYC, or any of the Shore restaurants all of these years--- has never ordered a children's meal either even when he was but 5 or 6 and it was always an adventerous order that he lived with and ate with his current GF taking him to Nicholas for his last birthday).

I just don't know if I, personally, can hold out the 5 months for Lorenas. ;-)
