Iranian and Iraqi traditional food

I'm researching Iranian and Iraqi traditional foods for my blog - would love insights, recipes, web sites to help me understand the cuisine of each country and would especially appreciate comments regarding distinct differences between the two. Thanks!

  1. I'm not very informed on the food from either region, but for food from Iran, you may find a greater wealth of resources if you search for Persian food.

    Present day borders between Iran and Iraq are relatively artificial, so with ethnic groups (and their food traditions) represented in both countries there may be some overlap. However searching by the ethnic groups represented in both countries would be a good place to start.

      Thanks - my question on Persian food is, is it unique to Iran or is Persian food common to the region.

        That I'm not really sure about. I'm based in Jerusalem, where there is the strong local tradition of "Arabic cuisine" (as diverse as that is) - but in Jewish Israeli food you see far more pan-Middle East/North Africa influence/dishes given that Jewish immigrants settled in Israel from all over the region.

        That being said, particularly in terms of modern Iran/Iraq - I would only be guessing.
