I think Katana stands out for its prices more than its food. It's not the best, but it's cheap for what you get.
Rice & Spice (in Landsdowne) and House of Dynasty (near Katana) are staples. I'm pretty sure the former is open on Christmas, but you should check. The latter is always packed, so you should make reservations.

The combination of the holiday and the location makes this a tough one. I have no idea what might be open, so I'm just going to throw out a bunch of suggestions, roughly in order of my preference. Walker's Grille and Mikes American Grill are the only ones that I typically recommend, but you can get a nice meal at the others also.
Walker's Grille down the road from Kingstown
Mike's American Grill a bit farther away in Springfield
Bonefish Grill right in Kingstowne, I've only been there twice about five years ago, but it can be pretty good
King Street Blues, not good for barbeque unfortunately, but some pretty decent options on the menu
Moby Dick, low on the list because it's very casual counter service and I'm assuming you're looking for something nicer, but it has very good kebabs and bread
Aditi Indian, low on the list because I've never been there so I'm hesitant to mention it, but if I were looking for a Christmas meal in Kingtowne, I would give it a try; (I went to an Aditi Indian restaurant in Falls Church a long time ago and it was pretty good, but I don't know if the two are related to each other)

I'm assuming this is Kingstowne near Springfield, Va-that's a tough one- the restaurants I've enjoyed in the Kingstowne area are Asian-I like Kumo Asian bistro , my kids like Shiro Japanese steakhouse, & we've eaten at Pasara (Thai) & Katana (Japanese)- I don't know if any of these are open on Xmas. There's also Walker's Grille & Mediterranean Gourmet market. Depending on your son's age, Olympians Greek restaurant might have some good choices, we've had large groups there before & everyone can find something they like.
