Jun - Former Hayama and Mr. Tiki sushi chef in san diego

I need help finding Jun, maker of sexy roll, iron man handrolls, something special with Eel, truck driver, alpine fantasy, etc. He worked at Hayama in San Diego for a long time, then went to Mr. Tiki's Mai Tai Lounge. He left there in August 2005 and I moved so he doesn't have my number to tell me where he is. Does anyone know?????

Must get sushi fix.

OK, I think I found him, but I was sooo close to the girl giving me his Phone number!! he is no Longer at sushiYa, (Which is probably a good thing, as the reviews I read were horrible.) the person I talked to said he left there, and is probably not working, he was trying to open his own place somewhere. I gave her my number, she said she would call him and leave a message that I am trying to get in touch with him. if I find him I will post back!

You are right, Sushiya was horrible. Jun is now at Fish Company which opened about 2 weeks ago! YUM

I know it's been a few years since this discussion but does anyone know where Jun is?
I dream about his sexy roll! Ate one 5 days a week for about a year and a half before he closed Gonta in El Cajon. Would love to find him.

Is this the same Junichi Fukushima that was the head sushi chef of Benihana?

I don't think so. Last I heard this Jun was working in Eastlake California at a sushi place but wasn't allowed to make his special rolls so we stopped going there and now we do not live in the area any more.

                bummer.
Gontas' sexy roll was hands down the best and no other even comes close

Jun is formally at Sushiya in Chula Vista but management stopped him from making his rolls.(chef rivalry) He said he's going to leave and he'll let me know where. When I find out I'll post.

Thanks for the update, I was afraid Jun was gone forever, and every time I though to check this site, it was already too late! It's too bad that they don't allow Jun to make his special rolls, I guess he doesn't get to use his "sexy sauce" either eh? Please do update again if you find out that he goes somewhere else, otherwise I think it I'll try to find the time to make the drive down there and visit him one of these days.

He is buying the Fish Company in coronado, but it is not open yet. I spoke with him today and he said he hopes to have it open in about 2 weeks, hopefully by June 1, 2008.
I am assuming he purchased the existing business and is going to remodel and re-open. The Fish Company, in Coronado. 1007 C Ave.

Are you sure he's buying the Fish Company? I talked to Dick Carlquist, the owner of Swadee's (next door to FC), last month and he said he had bought it and was expanding Swadee's but that it would be fish and sushi oriented. Also, the previous owner of Fish Company confirmed this

Jun has been found! He is at The Fish Company, in Coronado. The address is 1007 C Ave. It's a small, casual place that closes pretty early, 8pm during the week. I don't think they are open on weekends. But he is there, making all his specialties!

I am so glad to find this post. I used to ENJOY the alpine fantasy roll back in 1996-1997 when Jun had his own place in El Cajon ...Gonta Sushi. I called him the Gonta Man. Can't wait to delight his creations again. Thank you!

Ok, he is lost again. Anyone know where he went after the Fish Company? I spoke with him a few months after he left the Fish Company but then lost my cell phone data and can't find his number. He mentioned working at a new place in Mission Valley but I can't remember where he said that would be. Anyone find him yet?
