Should I consider getting the Magimix food processor?

I need a new food processor and I'm not at all sure which one to get. I've owned Cuisinart food processors since the 70's, but I'm not a diehard fan of the brand. I've heard mixed reviews about the Kitchenaid. And then there's the Magimix de by Robot-Coupe.

I'd love to hear from users of the Magimix. Are they worth the price? Is there anything about them that disappoints you? What are your thoughts about reconditioned units?

I'd also like to hear the pros and cons of the latest Cuisinart and Kitchenaid models. My present and previous Cuisinart had the same problem; after some amount of time, it became almost impossible to lock and unlock the bowl.

If it makes any difference, what I use it for primarily is slicing and chopping vegetables and grating cheese and potatoes. Sometimes I use it for pureeing, but less and less since getting a stick blender.

  1. I bought the Magimix a couple years ago, but returned it for a simpler 14 cup Cuisinart from Costco (not Elite), which I am happy with.

    The Magimix has too many bowls and parts and they need to be handwashed, a dealbreaker for me.

    I did try it out and felt that it was not substantially better than the Cuisinart for slicing/chopping. I think the Cuisinart was rated higher for doughmaking, my biggest use.

    Plus the Magimix costs a lot more because it is made in France. Hope this helps.
