need recommendations:

I'm an ex-Vancouverite coming back for a visit. I have a bunch of people to meet downtown and in east Van for lunches or casual dinners. I eat fish and seafood but not meat which has never been a problem in Vancouver, ever, for me, but I mention it anyway. Can you recommend anything on the cheap to moderate side? (ie $20 per main or less)

Any cool pubs to recommend?

Campagnolo Roma in East Van (right near Hastings/Nanaimo) is pretty decent for Italian, good carbonara.

And the original Campag is pretty convenient to both downtown and East Van. They have some good stuff on the menu, though I haven't been in a while. Nice-ish room, too, if a little cold.

Here's one place (multiple locations, and one on E. Hastings just east of Clark Dr, inside the reno'd Waldorf Hotel) that would please you::

Thanks this looks delish. Will be fun to try Lebanese in Van.

If you are coming from Montreal, don't bother with Lebanese here in Vancouver.

Agreed-try the Palestinian if anything unless you have lots of that as well.

If you like Oysters this is a cool little place with great food/service

On Fraser St-the Fish Jalfrezi is particularly toothsome

          Sam thank you!
I don't get my seafood fix enough over here in Montreal! I am all over both of these places. Yum.

East Van - perhaps Red Wagon (a hipster faux-diner) and Tacofino ( a hipster fish taco joint). I'm not personally a huge fan of either place.

For pubs - check out one of the new craft beer places (eg Portland Craft, St Augistine's) or (old-timer) Alibi Room.
