Malt Vinegar- Other Than Fish and Chips?

I bought a bottle of malt vinegar at the supermarket this morning... it was 50% off in the clearance section. Love it! But... I've only sprinkled fish and chips with it. How else do you use it?

  1. My BF's dad poured it all over a veggie stir-fry I prepared for them. :/ He puts it on anything that he doesn't put ketchup on.

    I've never used it, but it looks like other than for fish and chips, you use it like any other vinegar. Pickling, marinades, greens, etc.

    Or, you can just pour it on everything and see how that works for you. :p

    1. Vinegar is really important for seasoning, and malt vinegar, being smoothers than others, is great for this. A bit in a stew, soup, sauce, or stirfry can brighten up the whole dish.
      Thomas Keller advocates for seasoning with vinegar in Ad Hoc at home (I think... might be thinking of the french Laundry cookbook). Here is a podcast of him talking about it.

      1. Sprinkled on roasted beef right out of the oven, same with roasted root vegetables, over rice, on any form of potato not just fries.

        1. I sprinkle it on rich, fatty foods. Love a sprinkle on beef stew, a bit over shepherd's pie. I've also sprinkled it over chunks of butternut squash, which my H loves but I find a bit too sweet.
