Grey on grey really hurts my eyes and gives me a headache. Will you change to a white background?

It seems like a LOT of people have given this feedback. For me it's a non-starter. Even though I realize that some fonts have been darkened subsequent to the "upgrade", I still find myself squinting, then my eyes tear up, and I'm getting a headache after a very short time on this site.

Will this issue be addressed?

  1. I'm now seeing a bolder black on a white background (iPad) thank goodness!! I have aging eyes and frequently curse print media for the small font size and poor contrast. At least with decent contrast I can enlarge the page and read it!

My eyes are pretty old also. I always run with "auto brightness" off, and I set the brightness at a comfortable level. It looks good to me now. As you wrote, the text is bolder so there is good contrast.

What does what you said have to do with "gray on gray" optically? The OP's question wasn't about contrast or brightness.
Gray on gray optically...is not the same thing !!!
That is why they make after market products for .....pilots,sailors,shooters,gunners and some science lab people ,again, not the same thing.

If you look carefully, you will see that I was responding to nlgardener, not the OP.

    2. I'm seeing a white background now with a very dark gray typeface. The difference in eye strain between white and gray backgrounds is quite astounding.

Threads or posts I haven't read have a light grey background and darker grey font amidst a grey textured background and this field of grey causes eye strain.

On the other hand, when scrolling through mostly-read threads for a new post or, looking at my profile, I'm faced w a sea of grey and this is extremely difficult to look at, my eyes get fuzzy and tear up almost immediately.

...and here's a shot w unread posts showing. The grey text on the light grey background has a jagged appearance to my eye and creates a blurred effect that detrimentally impacts my ability to view the site for anything but a couple of minutes at a time.

Of course, everything but the "Category" content appears bright and crisp...and sadly, I suspect that's the point.
