Lunch place in Great Neck on or off Northern Blvd

Hi ChowHounders
Any strong recommendations for a pizza place, deli, or something for a really good lunch at a place where we can sit and enjoy a meal?
We taking my teenage son to his hockey game and we are not from the area.
Thanks in advance.

  1. Peter Luger for the burger.
    Lola,though no lunch on Saturday.
Kensington Deli, not a big fan but you can get all the traditional items.
    Miraku for excellent sushi.

    Enjoy

    1. Very close in Little Neck, particularly if you are coming down the CIP, is Centre Pizza in the shopping center at the LIE and Little Neck Parkway (maybe a mile south of Northern) and would probably be good for your teenager. It used to be a small pizza joint, but a few years ago expanded into a fuller restaurant. I haven't lived in the area for several years, but my in-laws do and I stop by to pick up their straciatella soup - to go - now and then.

A second rec. for Centre Pizza - the best pizza in eastern Queens.

Centre Pizza, eh. Gino's on Middleneck right in town is just as good. Grimaldi's in the shopping center next to Fairway and the movie theatre just off the LIE is better. Nothing wrong with the place but I don't see it as any better then any slice joint on the island. Now, not sure how you feel about Five Guys, but I like them as far as fast food burgers and they are in the same strip mall as Centre Pizza.

Yes! Grimaldi's does a nice brick oven pie.

Believe it or not, we actually ended up at Ben's Deli in Bayside, only a 15 minute drive. I was out voted by the crew!!

Well, Ben's is better than the Kensington Deli in Great Neck and I have had many a solid deli meal there. My older family members that live in the area are regulars and Ben's supplies what is often under appreciated, a tasty reminder of the past and something you just can't make at home.

I was actually surprised how good it was. Not a lunch you want to do often, but it worked out well.
