Early dinner w/kids New Years Eve

I am planning on taking my wife and 2 kids (5 and 1.5) to the 6pm NYE fireworks show @ Penn's Landing. Trying to find a place prior to the show that is family friendly and would prefer if they aren't holding a special menu for that day. Gluten Free friendly is a plus! Wife would like to go to Vietnam/Vietnam Palace, but not sure which is better; not sure if family friendly. Or is going to Washington Avenue better?

  1. Both Vietnam and Vietnam Palace are family friendly. I find Vietnam Palace overall a little better. Also Vietnam has stairs, and if you are on the second floor and have to carry an 18 month old upstairs, it is a bit of a pain in the neck.

I think overall Chinatown would be a good choice for you. Another place to consider is Rangoon, a Burmese restaurant. Think of the cuisine as a mix between Indian and Chinese.

Have a wonderful evening, and please let us know where you went.

    1. We've been taking our kids all over Chinatown since they were that age. Rangoon is a great suggestion, and probably the easiest to be gluten-free. It is both my kids' favorite restaurant. It's been a while, but I seem to recall that Vietnam doesn't have high chairs, if you need one. Also, they marinate most of their meats in soy sauce, so not GF. Sang Kee is another family friendly spot, though also tough to be GF.

Or you could be really decadent and just have ice cream at Franklin Fountain for dinner (that's something I would do). It's a quick walk from there to Penn's Landing.
