Fixes to site redesign

Robert Lauriston Dec 11, 2012 08:52 AM

Did you tweak the main font and/or background for topic posts? Seems higher contrast and easier to read than yesterday.

Font and contrast issues are fixed for me on Firefox in Windows.

The stark white background's unpleasant. Same exact problem as the last big makeover.

Still too much white space on the board pages, 80 pixels is way more than each topic heading needs.

I tried to report a thread for being on the wrong board, but "California" does not appear on the pull-down menu.

Also, what was the purpose behind changing "report" to "contrib" -- the meaning of the former is obvious, while the meaning of the latter is not. I had no idea what it meant until I actually clicked on it.

We changed 'report' to 'flag', since that's more common and we felt people would understand it better -- we get email from people saying they wanted to flag a problem for us but couldn't find the way. You should see both Flag and Contrib options.

"Contrib" is an option that only some people have -- it was in the "Contributor Panel" on the old site, and is used to move discussions when we separate out new categories. California isn't a destination on that list because it wasn't a new category, so there wasn't a need to move discussions there.

          Okay. Got it.

Hate the new font and resolution, too light and hard to read.

Also, what happened to the edit function. I cannot correct my typos, etc>

          Hi bagelman01.

We released a fix for the Edit button yesterday. Let us know if you have any further problems with it.

We hadn't made any changes as of the time of your post. It's possible that you were seeing a cached version of the style sheet yesterday, which could explain irregularities like illegible font color.

Pease don't fire anybody. I'm sure you'll be tuning it up now and then to correct those things which are actual problems.

I've been working on web apps for years. This mess was not properly beta-tested and should never have gone live with the font, white-space, and contrast problems.

I suppose maybe there's just no budget to do it right, in which case firing people might not help.

I would love to see the posts heads in a smaller font. Then again, I would love to see the Reply font larger--it is miniscule.

I think you'll be pleased to see some changes later today....

Nope, it's the same as yesterday. The contrast is better on my display at home. My display at work doesn't have enough contrast to read posts comfortably except when editing.

What kind of testing did you do, anyway? Somebody should be fired.

                Contrast is much better today.
