Why does Chowhound look like an app now?

Thanks to the new and "improved" re-design, this site now looks like an app. Unprecedented in my experience.

Was this the intent?

I can't think of any other site that's taken this narrow approach.

I'm saddened. I really like it here but this (uber-grey) re-design hurts my eyes and has made my preferred method of using the site, via my macbook, an unpleasant experience.

I sincerely hope the feedback you're receiving will be a catalyst for positive change.

I was mistaken. This new look is equally egregious on my ipad so it doesn't even cut it as an app IMHO.
