Possible to buy fresh, shredded (NOT grated!) coconut?

I know I can buy a coconut, hit it with a hammer, peel it, and shred it myself, which is probably not happening in this lifetime. Is it possible to buy fresh coconut, even if I have to shred it myself? I'm thinking Asian markets? Any advice is appreciated!

  1. Would love to know. I get mine frozen in the Indian grocer.

    1. The Asian stores in South Philly have peeled coconuts ready to go.

      1. The Head Nut in the RTM (and I guess at its other locations) has shredded coconut and also coconut "chips"

That would be dried, though, right? For most purposes not interchangeable with fresh.
