New Year's Eve Dinner

blurion Dec 9, 2012 10:07 PM

I'm looking for a resto that will do NYE dinner for ~$200 for two, including wine. Might be hard to do, since NYE is one of the biggest mark-up nights ever, but I'm hopeful!

I also considered trying to get a group together for Daisho but the reviews have been a bit too mixed for my liking. Plus, groups are hard to get together for NYE when half my friends want to go clubbing and the other half wants to go drinking.

For anyone interested, I contacted Splendido for fun and they're doing a 7 course tasting menu at $130, and will have a live jazz trio.

A well-reviewed flash place in TOronto that's doing a gala themed evening, all in $ 100 each? I'm as puzzled as you. If the good people of Chowhound cannot solve this puzzle, how about JAM Cafe in Cabbagetwon? Cozy neighbourhood bistro, easy for a couple to get out for $200 with wine, and in years past they have done the a la carte menu on New Years unless a private party booked out the entire place. So if they are not booked this year, you could go for an intime evening with GOOD food and wine (although I am not a fan of their wine list myself....it helps if you have a patriot's affection for Ontario wines) . For $ 200 all in it is not a NYE" gala with jazz or 8 mediocre little courses, few choices. They are closed today or I'd phone and check for you.

Haha, I should've clarified in my post or something - not looking for a "gala" event, just a nice dinner out so the boyfriend and I can avoid family/friends who would try to monopolize our time if we told them we were "staying in."

I will check them out though! The menu looks pretty good and we're definitely Ontario wine fans.

Richmond Station is doing a NYE dinner that will fit that budget.

It's first come first serve and last I heard they were halfway full already.

The Drake has a 3 course dinner (starting early), as well as a "strolling cabaret" food station dinner (starting at 8 pm), offered at $75pp, or a 4 course dinner at $100pp (starting at 9, 9:30, 10, able to keep the table until 3 am). http://www.thedrakehotel.ca/blog/2012...

excellent ideas, people! I salute you.

(I am eager to get to Richmond Station myself!)

The early Drake menu fixe $75 looks a great value if you are out by 9:00, includes the usual suspects for "elegant" including oysters, lobster (much cheaper than it used to be but still with an aura of luxe) cHanterelles, etc., but only fair to mention for budget-conscious OP that it does not include wine, tax, or tip...with a pair of sparkly aperitifs and a decent white with the seafood.... closer to $ 150 each. Good for New Years in a fun venue!

Wanted to update with my NYE dinner choice! Boyfriend and I will be headed to Rodney's Oyster House because they are doing specials but still have their regular options, which is better for the budget. :)

I also found out that Quinta up in Little Portugal will be doing a $50 prix fixe, 4 courses including a glass of bubbly, 2 seatings, if anyone is interested in that.
