Boca Bistro Saratoga Tap and Tapas Promotion
At the bar only, Monday through Thursday, 5 pm to closing. Any draft beer, or house wine, and an assortment of three tapas, for $8. Did it the other night. Usual happy hour price for the drinks at Boca is $5, so we are talking about three tapas plates at a buck apiece. All come out at the same time. Plates are about five inches square, presented very nicely on a three/plate platter. First one was simple bruschetta, second one was potato cubes in an aioli sauce, and the last was two meatballs in a red sauce. Bruschetta was ice cold, obviously just hauled out of the refrigerator. Potato cubes had to be from Sysco, nobody, even Jacques Pepin, could have cut them so identically. Seemed to have been run through the fryer, and then, maybe, sauteed a little bit. The aioli was OK. Meatballs were very good, and spicy, as was the sauce, and my bar drinking buddy, resourceful as he usually is, suggested dipping the bruschetta in it to make it palatable. I asked the bartender if the tapas plate was going to be varied down the road, and he said that it was pretty much going to be the set piece for a while. I had hopes that the promo might be enough to make me choose Boca over cooking dinner for a while, but it probably won't. I know, it's tough to quibble about three plates of food for a price that's cheaper than a Big Mac, but I am. Maybe some of the Saratoga foodies who post on this site can chime in on their experiences.
