Fire at American Oak Alameda.

The news of their fire last night prompted me to check out their site. Abstractpoet had mentioned it previous as as good place for a steak but a glance at their menu shows they also served Chick-a-rones which in another language would be gribenes. Hope they reopen soon.

  1. Their ribeye is excellent-tender, well seasoned, and served exactly as ordered. The waitstaff seem friendly and quite efficient. I hope they can recover quickly.

    1. Happy Hour had quality made cocktails (5-6) and bar eats (deviled egg, fries) that were ok, freshly made, not from frozen.

      friendly, helpful staff.

Wife and I were just there on Friday night - we're big fans of the place, despite the fact that their menu has shrunk significantly from the first time we went. It's very minimal now.

As we're supporters and frequent patrons of the spot, we were saddened to hear of the fire and resulting damage on Saturday morning. Curiosity got the best of us, and we stopped by to check it out after the fire crews had left the scene. While we were staring in the windows, the woman who I've come to believe is the manager was writing on the newly placed plywood on the door. We expressed our disappointment and asked a few questions, to which we were very surprised at the cadence of her answers - you'd think someone who just lost as much as they did (or presumably did) would be a bit more distraught. She didn't seem to care all that much, which was a bit odd.

Hard to explain, really, but something doesn't seem right with this whole situation.

      2. It has been deemed "suspicious":

I've only been there once, but I was disappointed by the food. The place looked great and the menu was interesting, but did not translate on the plate. The cocktails were pretty good.
