Need restaurant for visiting la. Loved AOC but want something new. Ideas?

Looking for fun, yummy restaurant fairly close to the London hotel. Love AOC but feel we need to try something new this visit. Having lunch at pizzeria mozza. Don't want fancy-- yummy food and good atmosphere. Thank you.

  1. Animal http://www.animalrestaurant.com/ or their more seafood driven sister restaurant Son of a Gun http://aroadatree.com/twodudes/soag/ or possibly Red Medicine http://redmedicinela.com/ (although I am going to start wearing ear plugs when I dine here).

+1 for Son of A Gun. One of my favorite, most original & creative restaurants in Los Angeles. The seafood version of Animal. Must tries include that amazing fried chicken sandwich, their uni pasta & smoked steelhead roe with maple cream. So good!

I find the noise level at Red Medicine, Animal, and SOG equivalent. Personally not bothered by any of them but always surprised to not hear complaints about the noise at Animal.

I've never had a noise complaint on my visits to Animal (or S of a G either). They don't even approach the noise level at RM...

For me the noise level at A-Frame beats them all. Roy Choi please turn the volume down. Ouch!

                Oh, that's what it's for.

I agree, noise level has never been that bad at Animal for us. Perhaps because it is small, with a teeny bar, and those waiting to dine have to do so outside? SoG has some fabric in the place to help absorb some sound. When I dined at lunchtime, it just wasn't busy enough to be loud.

        2. Rivera or Playa for very upscale "latino" food and drinks.

The OP's post was looking for "fairly close to the London Hotel" so, much as I prefer Rivera, I think Playa would be the way to go of these 2 options.
