Need recommendations in WH area

  • a

My husband and I want to take the metro in on Saturday (early afternoon) just to see the decorations, lights, most likely in the White House area (love to see it decorated for Xmas). Any recommendations for a restaurant in that area? I'm interested in French bistro or seafood or "American". Thanks!

  1. BLT Steak - expensive
PJ CLarks - Great Raw bar - good burgers - good fries - moderate prices

I had lunch at PJ Clarke's a few weeks ago with colleagues -- i thought the food was ok, and the prices a little high for what we got.

BLT Steak is really good and really expensive!

So to split the difference, how about Bobby Van's on 15th St? Good American food, very big portions.

For something a little different, how about Mio on Vermont Ave?

Bobby Vans is ok and straight forward - although the one down on New York avenue is a bit nicer. Neither is going to make the best steaks in the city list though.

You were wanting dinner, not lunch, right? (Central isn't open for lunch on Sat.)

        2. If you like raw oysters and clams, go to the Old Ebbitt Grill for their raw bar happy hour.

          1. I'd stick to the raw bar for both PJ Clarke's and Old Ebbitt.

Bistro d'Oc is a bit of a further walk, but worth it, imo.

            1. Thanks, everyone! P J Clark's and Bistro d'Oc seem to fit the bill. I appreciate your suggestions and comments.

              1. Cafe du Parc is in the Willard, right across from the White House. It's a really nice French bistro, I especially like their roast chicken. You can have an early dinner/late lunch there, then walk around and see the sites and then return to their famous bar for a hot toddy or Irish coffee.

Another great French restaurant a little farther away (but still walking distance) is Bistro D'Oc. Perfect for the cold winter day! It's much cozier than Cafe du Parc. They have a rotating list of specials on a chalk board and upstairs there is a fire place. You could take the metro to Metro Center, dine at Bistro D' Oc then walk over to the White House and have drinks at the Willard afterward. This would be a really lovely Saturday filled with holiday spirit.
