Thai Pan- Leesburg, VA

I ate at Thai Pan for the first time today and it was really delicious. I'd heard good things about it but hadn't been because, well, it's attached to a gas station and that's a little questionable :) It's at 2 Harrison Street across from the county building (side note- street parking in Leesburg is currently free for 2 hours. I believe this is through the end of the year). I was surprised to see that its lovely inside. You can't tell they share a building with a gas station. I ordered an iced tea and it tasted canned rather than fresh. Eh. I started with a house salad and while everything was fresh, it was pretty boring. Iceberg lettuce, green peppers, tomatoes, onions, and carrots. However, it was served with a thick peanutty sauce that was addictive. I wolfed down most of that so-so salad just so I could eat more peanut sauce! I ordered a yellow curry with chicken and was very, very happy with it. I first tasted this curry in Bangkok and was transported back there when my plump pile of jasmine rice and steaming bowl of curry arrived. The curry had a hit of sweetness from the coconut milk and a lovely heat- the kind that lingers flavorfully, not just brings tears to your eyes with no actual taste. There was a generous amount of tender chicken and, of course, potatoes and onions. My bill was $16 and service was quick and friendly. I'll be back!

  1. Thai Pan is an excellent value. I'm addicted to their Som Tam and the crispy duck in the red curry sauce. We are out of the country right now but your post has reminded me to get back there soon after we return.

The yellow curry sounds fabulous. Adding that to my next order for sure!
