Freezing Prepared Turnip

eaglelake Dec 4, 2012 12:29 PM

I make the following recipe for Christmas dinner...I have never frozen it ahead of time...do you think I can?
2 lbs. (1 inch cubed) turnip
1 c. orange joice
2 tlbs br. sugar
1/4 tsp. ginger
1 tlbs. melted butter
I put 1 can or mandarin oranges on top...(this could wait until I thaw it - and put it in the oven before Christmas dinner...
Can any help me with this?
Thanking you in advance.

I make turnip in advance, mash it and put it in ziploc and flat freeze. Without any added ingredients it is quite liquid, I usually put it in a pot and cook until excess water is gone. I would freeze your puree and add your ingredients at the time of preparation of your entire dish.

Thanks - Ruthie789 (BTW - I am also a Ruthie)....I think I will do it the way you suggested...and then bring it out on the 24th - thaw - and ready it to cook after the turkey comes out of the oven.....

This recipe sounds interesting. I have turnips to use up from my CSA. I might just have to try this out. It is similar to a sweet potato dish my mom makes.

Sure, you can freeze such a mixture. Put the oranges on top just before baking.

Thanks - janniecooks - I want to do as much as possible before Christmas dinner - and have never frozen this item before. I will make this - this week.
