Really tacky advertising and links on site

Dear Chowhound,

I know that you need paid advertising onsite. If not, we would all have to have paid subscriptions. But of late thare has been some really tacky advertising, including extremely specious diet sites. I won't name names, but they advocate unhealthly fad dieting, including chemical-laden "food", not sensible eating. Idem a certain fitness site that seems to cater to 20-year-old women only.

I'm certainly not opposed to advertising links, but these should be vetted so as not to insult your site users.

merci bien.

Since the new American past time seems to be taking offense that seems like an impossible hurdle...

I've just trained myself to not look at any of those. My husband feels we should like on all of them so the advertisers' click-counts will be higher and they'll pay more to chow. . . but I'm not so sure he's correct on that one!

install an ad blocker. it takes care of everything except that box along the bottom labeled "From CHOW and Sponsored Partners" - though i could do without some of those links too.
