Update: Returning to (now from) Key West after 40 years

Just wanted to say thanks for the food suggestions and let ya'll know Key West is still great! Friendly people everywhere we went. The city is very clean and safe. We really enjoyed our trip and will return again; sooner than 40 years!
The best:
Breakfast - Blue Heaven and Sarabeth's
Lunch - Conch Republic Seafood Co., Sandy's, Rusty Anchor
Dinner - Michael's and 915
Favorite Bar - Schooner Wharf Bar
Best Happy Hour Deal - Alonzo's Oyster House
Best Coffee - Cuban Coffee Queen

  1. We just returned from Key West, also, and agree with you: Key West is clean, safe, and really fun! In addition to your experience, we found the Happy Hour at Kelly's to be very good (half price appetizers and $3 margaritas - we tried the ahi, the shrimp quesadillas and the chicken wings and were very happy with all).

JDL's Sports Bar was a solid lunch choice for us - my husband liked the meatloaf sandwich, and I liked the special, grouper with a nut crust.

Drink tip - Pepe's is known for the $1 Yengling drafts, but the real deal is the fresh squeezed (right in front of me) grapefruit and vodkas. Best drink I had all week.

You are so right about Pepe's.
I fondly remember the grapefruit margaritas and never mind the steak smothered pork chop!

        Happy Hour rum&cokes @ Kelly's: $2.50!
Pepes does fresh squeezed OJ as well (read vodka/OJ for breakfast) I liked their hearty breakfast choices including killer hash.
Grilled oysters at Turtle Kraals were pretty good.
When tired of typical Keys fare, the pizza @ Mr. Zs pretty good.
