Singapore - Kim Choo's Nyonya Kitchen @ Changi Airport

Kim Choo's Nyonya Kitchen at the Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3 is the only Asian eatery ranked amongst the top 30 airport eateries in the world at #19, according to the Daily Meal web-site:

Kim Choo's original outlet in Joo Chiat Place (near Katong, Singapore's Peranakan Baba-Nyonya heartland) is well-known for making the best meat-filled rice dumplings (粽子) in Singapore, especially the Nyonya type with coriander-flavored minced pork and chopped,sweetened wintermelon filling. It was established just after the end of World War II, and still going strong.

Kim Choo's smallish outlet in Changi Airport also offers a wide variety of its famous rice dumplings, besides a spread of Nyonya cuisine of the quality you'd not expect to find in an airport.

This evening, I tried:
- Nyonya chicken curry - coconut-rich, spicy, with well-cooked chicken pieces and potatoes. Marvellous with steamed white rice.
- Bakwan kepiting - minced pork-prawn balls with bamboo shoot & oyster mushrooms in a hearty pork-flavored consomme.

One can also finish off with a selection of Nyonya kuehs, priced by the piece at S$1 each. Delicious.

  1. Wow, what a nice accolade for a homegrown brand.
    I liked Kim Choo's kueh chang babi,it's got the most home made taste f all commercial brands available in the market. Kim Choo's restaurant on East Coast road is one of the places I have always wanted to try. We always end up in Peranakan Inn a short distance away, or Guan Hoe Soon or Baba Inn in Frankel Avenue.
    It's nice to know we can have good nonya food at Changi airport these days.
