Has anyone tried the new Kuhn Rikon 7 liter pressure cooker?

Apparently there's a new lid redesign. I think this youtube video demonstrates how it works

Does anyone know how the new design compares to the old design? It is much more expensive than the old design and I wonder if the changes are worth it. In terms of performance I'm looking for something that has the least steam venting and water loss, which I believe is the whole purpose of buying kuhn rikon in the first place.

  1. I own the "old" design. It works very well. There are a lot of nooks and crannies to clean but, it's cooking performance is very good. I use my WMF PerfectPlus 6.5L a lot more which is mainly due to the ease of hand washing.

This design (which KR calls the "Top Model") isn't really so new; it was introduced more than 6 years ago, as I recall seeing it at the former location of a cookware store that moved in mid-2006. I have the regular model, and I don't see any advantage to the Top Model. In terms of steam venting and water loss, they're the same. The only functional differences are that with the Top, the pressure indicator lines are a little easier to see, and you don't have to hold the valve down continuously in order to release the pressure quickly: you just push it down and turn it, and it stays in position. In my experience, holding the valve down manually is neither difficult nor inconvenient, and I don't have a problem seeing the pressure indicator lines. For what it's worth, I also think the Top Model's valve looks clunky and I find the tapered handles unattractive, whereas I really like the appearance of the regular model. But others must feel differently, or the Top Model wouldn't still be in production! Hope this helps.
