Old Town Serbian (MKE) - What a disappointment

Fowler Dec 2, 2012 06:26 PM

We had some house guests from Florida and thought it would be a good idea to take them somewhere that served food that was not only good but something they would not get at home. Old Town Serbian seemed like a good idea.

We were wrong.

I really enjoyed the avjar (roasted peppers) and kajmak (cheese spread) but our guests did not agree and it went further downhill from there. The spinach and cheese burek was incredibly bland. Raznijci was cooked to death and tough. The paprika chicken had an off putting weird gamey taste and smell.

Service was fine if of you do not mind your server sitting at the bar instead of attending to their tables.

Years ago, Old Town Serbian was a good place to take visitors for a special local experience. These days? Apparently not .

Anyone dined at Three Brothers lately? Always preferred it over Old Town, but haven't been there in a long time.

We dined at Three Brothers in August for a birthday celebration with some friends. The burek I had was really good, but others in our group were not so pleased with their meals or cocktails. The service was good, but that did not offset the majority of the food. In addition, plates and utensils were dirty and I would imagine not things you would subject to your friends and/or family.

Too bad about 3 brothers. Never expected much in the way of cocktails. Do expect a clean fork though.
