Where to buy cinnamon sticks in bulk?

The Librarian Dec 2, 2012 03:53 PM

I want to make some Christmas tree ornaments using small bunches of cinnamon sticks. Any thoughts where I can buy lots of them for a reasonable price? I'd prefer Marin, San Francisco, or the East Bay if possible. Thanks!

Try the Food Mill in Oakland

I don't know about the price, but Rainbow sells them in bulk. I find that you can ask a worker there and they will sell any bulk items in the quantities they get from their suppliers.

What kind of sticks do you want? The neat 'swizzle sticks'? Mexican groceries are likely to carry true (Ceylon) cinnamon, which is a thinner bark, while Vietnamese ones sell a chunky thick bark.

Specifically - Costco Business in Hayward has rather large jugs of cinnamon sticks for pretty cheap.

Lhasa Karnak in Berkeley sells Batavian cinnamon sticks for $13 a pound and Ceylonese for twice that.

I think the price at this place was about 4.99/pound in their bulk section last time I was there! Maybe a bit more..
