Charlotte NC Best choice

I am trying to find a great place for dinner and come up with a few choices from internet searches. What are you opinions of each, and do you have any further recomendations?

1. Terrace Cafe
2. Bonterra
3. Soul Gastrolounge
4. Mimosa Grill
5. Luce

I love everything however my husband isn't quite as adventurous. He appriciates a fine meal, but doesn't like ingredients that are unfamiliar. Is there anywhere I could get the adventurous meal at the same time staying in his comfort zone. Price point does not matter. We will be downtown and are willing to travel.

  1. I would suggest:

    Barringtons
    Good Food on Montford
    Halcyon
    Cafe Monte

    1. I'd go to either Halcyon or 5Church. You can peruse their menus online.

      1. I'll add Customshop to the list of those suggested by others.

        As for your list:

        Terrace is good for breakfast/brunch.
Bonterra is fine, but not exciting. It doesn't get recommended much on these boards.
        Soul is a fun place.
I don't think anyone on here would recommned Mimosa Grill. That's the kind of place you do a business lunch or dinner if you work nearby.
I've actually never been to Luce. If you're interested in doing Italian, I highly recommned Fiamma.

Luce is great, or at least has been. I don't have any recent experiences there. Fiamma is always a good choice although Luce is "nicer". But that could be because Fiamma is in a strip mall.

Bonterra is very good but not what I would call adventurous.

Soul is very adventurous but people seem to like it.

I agree exactly with Terrace and Mimosa

Savor Cafe is near downtown and has a nice variety of food. More casual atmosphere.

+2 for Customshop and... basically everything that ickymettle has said.

If price isn't an issue, I'll throw Fig Tree out there too. Beautiful restored craftsman style home, delicious food and a massive wine list that has great selections in all price points. http://www.charlottefigtree.com/

I'll suggest Carpe Diem. It's a Charlotte gem and has been around town longer than any of the other suggestions (albeit at several different locations - the expansion of the city has forced it to relocate several times). Again, it's a beautiful restaurant, great atmosphere and good eats and drinks. I love their seared scallops over mushroom risotto. They have some pretty conventional fare too, to satisfy your husband. http://www.carpediemrestaurant.com/

A hearty second for Carpe Diem. Great food. Husband will be able to find something familiar, but wonderful. The restaurant interior is absolutely beautiful. Carpe is close to downtown and easily reached by car or taxi.
I would also second Fiamma for Italian

              1. re: Jibe

It's certainly underappreciated, Jibe. I think we get so caught up in all the new restaurants and hype that we forget the handful that have been around a long while. Carpe Diem is one of them and they've been doing things well for many years.

                1. re: lynnlato

Carpe Diem is where I took my prom date back in high school 20 years ago. Back when it was located where Bernardin's is now. That's how old school it is. Back then, it was easily Charlotte's best restaurant.

                  1. re: ickymettle

I loved that location. We had our 2nd or 3rd anniversary dinner there. I remember having the nut-crusted goat cheese salad and I loved it. They have always had this on their menu, along with a fried chicken. It's pretty cool that it has survived, at various locations, the cities massive growth over the past 20 years.

Had a great dinner at Fig Tree last weekend. Will also note that the service there was impeccable.
