SF Dish of the Month (Dec 2012) - Nominations

It's time to choose a Dish of the Month for SF Bay Area for December 2012

The idea is this: choose a 'Dish of the Month' for SF Bay Area and then collectively try as many versions of this dish as possible, reporting back with details and photos. It's great to talk about places you've been in the past, but the idea is to explore new places and make new discoveries.

The dish that gets chosen might be something very specific (minestrone soup, xiao long bao) but might also be more of a dish category (stuffed pasta dishes, Asian fried chicken). It's up to the users, but it probably makes sense to choose something that locals are excited about trying and finding the best versions! In the past, the dish of the month inspired a few Chowdowns so people could try the dish together....hopefully this tradition can continue!

This is the nomination thread for December 2012…you can nominate as many dishes as you want, but once we do the voting thread (which will start on November 29), it will be one vote per user.

To nominate a dish, post it in ALL CAPS in the responses below. This thread will be open until November 28th.

Let the nominations begin!

Sorry for the delay....the voting thread is up here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/879780

There are a lot of suggestions this month, so I did my best to choose the most popular. If anyone writes in anything else, then I will also add it to the main list. But remember, just one vote per person!

            second:

fresh crab dishes, however broadly/narrowly defined (I'd vote for broader)

also thinking seasonally in a different way:

            potato latkes

            fruitcake

Local Dungeness crab would make sense, since the season just started and may not last long.

What would you want the dish be if the ingredient dungeness crab was involved this month? Plain steamed or boiled would be a waste since so many of us have reported success at doing that at home already. A few interesting preparations have been suggested already (roasted, salt & pepper, salted egg) and would require 2nd'ing in all caps to launch to the voting round. I'd like to second some kind of flavored whole dungeness crab preparation, but would want to make sure it's prevalent enough that we're not all going to the same two places.

RISOTTO, GNOCCHI or SPAETZLE all sound nice and warming.

                Crab season just opened, so…

                SALT & PEPPER CRAB

                SALTED EGG CRAB

Soup or stew suits a winter day…

                BUN BO HUE

oxtail is more an ingredient than a dish. Can you narrow that down to a stew, soup, braise, etc?

Tons of great ideas so far!

In order to narrow things down, anyone should feel free to chime in and 'second' anything that you would like to push toward the voting round. I think we'll want to narrow it down to approx 4-6 for voting.

Also, please remember to put nominations and votes in all caps.
