Brando's Citi Cucina in Asbury Park

Brando's was recently recommended as a great place. I tried to get a reservation for this Sat night but they were all booked except for 5 pm or 9 pm. Has anyone been there? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. The menu looks interesting and I'd like to know more about the place. Thank you Chowhounders!

      1. Has anyone been here recently? I hate when they don't put prices on the web!

        1. Finally found my way here after too long of a wait to try it out. I've been to their sister location, Osteria Cucina in Marlboro, and I certainly like the food, just not most of the locals hanging out there. (lol sorry if any of you are one of them)

Perhaps because it has been so hyped up by what I have read and heard about the place, I just found it didn't live up to the hype. They pride themselves on their steaks, but they don't have a steak menu, it says something like "ask us about our steaks" I prefer my drama on TV.

Also, when I pulled up to valet parking, behind the restaurant where there is a kitchen entrance, one of the cooks was out side hanging out with the valet parker having a smoke. That was a HUGE turn off. (yeah yeah yeah....everyone has a right to smoke etc. just don't do it by the back entrance of the restaurant)

Although we had a reservation I didn't know there was a bar section and dining room, we were seated in the bar area, while the table was comfortable it was rather loud. Perfect for a married couple of 20 years who don't really care what the other has to say, not so good if your on a date. The steak itself was very good, but not great, I left with my socks still on, they ween't knocked off. Similar review for the wife and daughter, nobody loved their entree's.

All in all, I'll go back to Oysteria Cuccina and sit at the outside bar next time I want to sample their food.

jrvedici I always enjoy reading your posts but I've mentioned that before. Anyway, my husband and I have had dinner at Brando's many times over the past 3 years. In fact, we shared a wonderful New Year's eve dinner there 2 years ago. On our first visit we were also seated in the bar area. My then boyfriend decided to try the steak. The waiter did not tell us that the steak was large enough for 2 - 3 people and it took up the entire table!!! But, we did enjoy the food so we went back. We have always sat in the dining room since then, but it does get VERY LOUD with parties in there as well.

We went back for dinner this past Saturday after staying away during the frigid winter months (we preferred to eat a bit more local). My husband had a bad clam off the Clams Oreganata appetizer we ordered and they did take it off our bill. Surprisingly, the food was just ehhhh this time. Not sure what happened? Maybe they had a different chef that night? I had the duck special and it wasn't as good as times past. My husband didn't rave about his fish either. They also stopped making our favorite appetizer which was some kind of fried artichoke leaves. We've never had anything like it anywhere else and we've asked about it a few times, no one seems to know why it's no longer on the menu. We may go back again because I believe they deserve another chance - we normally enjoy our meals and they may have had an off night. Try them again - you may enjoy it.

Osteria is about 4 minutes from our house - but we don't like the noise or the crowd there (sorry to our neighbor's relatives). They do have a beautiful patio, but they allow smoking so that ruins it for us.

Let me know if you try it again and I will post if we return.
