Upper End Mediterranean / European / Cal Ideas

Howdy:

I'm pretty familiar with the city but I haven't been in a couple of years. I'm wondering if there is anything new (or that I've missed in past visits) in the following genre:

Mid-upper price range European/Mediterranean inspired (but somewhat original) food with an emphasis on comfort as opposed to precious or tweezered. Examples of restaurants in the price range and style range I'm looking for that I've been to and really enjoy are Hearth and Blue Hill Farm or Esca if I am in a fish mood. I recognize those are all pretty different restaurants from one another, but hopefully you get the idea. For the moment, ideas from anywhere in Manhattan would be helpful.

thanks so much!

I went to Amali recently for lunch and quite liked it.
