help! dinner suggestions for 4...

Hi all,

Brother in law and his wife are coming into town. I've been tasked with making dinner reservations, for 4 on a Friday night in a few weeks.

Looking for one of 2 kinds of places...BUT quality of the food is important in either type of place...

Either a nice rustic-looking restaurant/neighborhood spot (like Il Buco) OR
Something very unique and New York that you won't find elsewhere (like Beauty & Essex, but with better food)

The only thing they won't eat is Asian food...(Sad, I know)
Really no specific restrictions on price.
And as far as location, anywhere in Manhattan works for us...

Of course if you've recently had a great meal and just want to share, I'm happy to consider it.

Thanks for your help!

Might be tougher than usual to land a primetime reservation for 4 on a Friday night as it's December (extra tourists in for the holidays, lots of holiday parties and celebrations).

Are you OK eating earlier or later? Or do you absolutely have to eat at 7-8pm?

How about Minetta Tavern? Very New York-y. For a party of 4 on a Friday night, you'll probably end up with the 5:30pm slot there, though.

I don't know if I am completely missing your requirements but how about Keens steakhouse? Classic NYC and it has a warm, rustic feel to it. If that doesn't work for you how about Mas Farmhouse or Mas La Grillade?

What's the date? Might be easier if we can look at opentable and see what's open for that night, and work from there. Many places will be booked already.
