Looking for your favorite comfort food recipes made healthy.
Do you have any comfort food items that you sometimes make a healthy version of? I sometimes make spaghetti and meatballs with turkey meatballs, that is about it. I need more suggestions. Thanks.

I look for simple substitutions when I'm craving a comfort food but don't want to go all out with the ingredients. For example, creamed spinach is a major comfort food in my book--instead of using cream I make a roux and add low-fat milk and a touch of evaporated milk. All of the creamy flavor and texture, but I've saved some calories.
Another easy change is to use whole grain/whole wheat pasta, bulk up recipes with veggies, etc.
Portion control is another way to manage--IMO as long as a recipe is made with whole food ingredients then portion control is the best way to manage the calorie part of healty...

In what way are you looking to make things healthier? I've found over the years that I just don't like substitutions for things in food, so unless I can have the "real thing" I'd rather just not eat it. So instead of a carby or starchy side with meals, I use veggies such as green beans or sauteed cabbage. Not sure if this is what you're looking for or not.....
