Looking for your favorite comfort food recipes made healthy.

Do you have any comfort food items that you sometimes make a healthy version of? I sometimes make spaghetti and meatballs with turkey meatballs, that is about it. I need more suggestions. Thanks.

  1. In what way are you looking to make things healthier? I've found over the years that I just don't like substitutions for things in food, so unless I can have the "real thing" I'd rather just not eat it. So instead of a carby or starchy side with meals, I use veggies such as green beans or sauteed cabbage. Not sure if this is what you're looking for or not.....

    1. I look for simple substitutions when I'm craving a comfort food but don't want to go all out with the ingredients. For example, creamed spinach is a major comfort food in my book--instead of using cream I make a roux and add low-fat milk and a touch of evaporated milk. All of the creamy flavor and texture, but I've saved some calories.

      Another easy change is to use whole grain/whole wheat pasta, bulk up recipes with veggies, etc.

      Portion control is another way to manage--IMO as long as a recipe is made with whole food ingredients then portion control is the best way to manage the calorie part of healty...
