brunch w/plenty of vegan options in Chapel Hill/Durham

cbwilson Nov 24, 2012 08:59 AM

I'll be visiting my little sister at UNC next weekend and we are looking to get some brunch on Sunday. One in our party is vegan, so I'd like a place that is a good mixture for everyone- not the requisite "here is the one vegan option" or a place that is totally vegan, either. Any suggestions?

the Spotted Dog in Carrboro is great; they have tons of vegan dishes as well as meat and fish plus lots of on tap beers.

Panzanelle in Carrboro has a good number of vegan options.

go to Cholanad, they have superb South Indian food with many vegan choices and plenty of goat/chicken/fish for everyone else.

Rory, are you sure they don't use ghee in the vegetarian options? That would be my concern. It is a wonderful place though.

          I'd second Panzanella.

LM: that's a misunderstanding, Northern Indian cuisine cooks with ghee and is dairy heavy.

Southern Indian cuisine cooks with coconut oil (usually veg oil abroad) and coconut milk Cholanad is a South Indian restaurant so it's very vegan friendly. Weekends they have veg thali's too. A big treat.

with Panzanella, they make their own pasta, just make sure they don't use eggs...but it is good too.
