Gah, I just checked on my brined turkey!

And apparently the bag had a slow leak! It is now sitting in a cooler full of brine inside an empty bag.

    Probably had enough time in direct contact with the brine. I would not re-brine at the risk of it being overly salty. Better to use the salt shaker at the table, if necessary, than to serve a brown-skinned salt lick!

      Oh, it has only been a few hours so I don't think it had much contact with the brine. My cooler is clean so I just took the turkey out of the bag. I really only used the bag to make it easier to transfer to the sink in the AM. I am just so glad I checked and didnt leave it alone and discover it tomorrow!

        I said "Newman" today too, but no one got it.

        What happened to you has happened to me more than once. I have brined directly in the cooler and no one has grown 3 heads. Yet.
