Boulevardier Brunch Review

I had brunch last Sunday at Boulevardier and wanted to share my experience here. To summarize, the food gets a solid A- and the service was a C. I'll start with the bad: the service. I showed up at about 11:10 (they open at 11:00) and spent the first ten minutes standing awkwardly in the doorway waiting for anyone to tell me how to proceed. After the first few minutes, I noticed they were still setting up tables. However, it wouldn't have taken more than a quick update, from anyone, saying they'll be with us in a bit. Instead, I made eye contact with a few waiters who waited at the bar for their drinks and stared at the group of people waiting in the doorway as if they were wondering who's responsibility it was to greet us. Our waitress, who was very friendly, seemed to be new. She forgot a side and pulled a shady up-sell move, the details of which aren't necessary. Minus those mistakes, service was fine.

I've been looking for a place that does creative egg dishes for a while (still want to try Smoke). Most of the "fancy" brunch places in Dallas think it's creative to sub prosciutto in an eggs benedict or something similarly boring. That wasn't the case at Boulevardier. I had the eggs meurette which consists of a poached egg on top of toast with mushrooms, lardons, bone marrow and in a red wine sauce. It was fantastic. I think it needs something sharp to cut the richness (egg yolk and bone marrow and mushrooms and red wine sauce are all very rich) but it was fantastic none the less. My friend at the legs and eggs. That includes poached eggs on top of fried grit cakes with duck leg confit and huckleberry jam. The only thing off about the dish was that the duck leg was a little dry. Not exactly the tender confit I'm used to which I found surprising considering it's a French bistro style restaurant.

Long story short, it's my new favorite brunch place in Dallas. I recommend it.

  1. Sounds very yum!

    1. Thanks for the review. Food sounds very interesting. How long have they been open now?

I likely would not have waited 10 minutes in the entry ... probably 5 max before approaching someone ;)
