Latin Flavor Cafe, Asheville

  • 2

Last night we decided to try Latin Flavor Cafe in East Asheville. The building which has been the home to many a unsuccessful establishments over the years, has been nicely remodeled and modernized.
Having heard very little buzz about this place and only a few cars in the parking lot made us hesitant to go in. However, we could not have been more pleasantly surprised. The menu is very Latin themed, more along the lines of Tomato rather than your corner Mexican Joint. We ordered a few things to split among the 4 of us and enjoyed them all. We had an blue cheese crab artichoke dip served with chips that was great, large portion too. The beef empanadas came next serves with a lemony sour cream dip. The empanadas were so, so good, flakey and flavorful. Next was carnitas, tender with great flavor serves with beans and plantains. I had a lentil quinoa burger with fresh ginger and ancho honey aoli, it was awesome! With two beers, two teas and all this food our tab was $46 bucks. The service was very attentive and friendly we never had to ask for anything.
I am pretty excited to have this place on the east side of town. We will absolutely be back :)

  1. Sounds wonderful! I've been wondering about it. Sure hope they make it.

    1. we had almost the same thought when we pulled into the parking lot...uih-oh - only a few cars here, though of course it was a week night. I would agree that it is more like our old Tomato (when it was on Patton Ave/Smoky Park) then your run-of-the-mill Tex Mex, however we were not quite as impressed w/ the food. Our arepas were just bland and it seemed like the food was missing something...cilantro? spices? We would try it again and order other entrees apps to give it another chance. Certainly reasonable, large portions and very attentive service.
