Pizza - Morristown/Madison

  • 8

I have to take my kids to dr. appt at hospital in Morristown. Looking for decent pizza nearby for quick dinner. What's good? Think slice joint, not artisinal.

  1. That's a really tough call. Lot's of pizza, most of it very ordinary. If you don't have a particular preference, what direction are you coming from? At least we could tell you what's convenient.

It would be on way home to Montclair - preference is close to hospital

    2. I think I would head out of Morristown to Florham Park and go to Nonna's. It's in the Trader Joe's shopping center near the intersection of Columbia Tpk. and Ridgedale Ave. It will only take you about 10 minutes to get there from the hospital. It will take you just as long to park in Morristown. Good selection and very kid friendly.

      1. Firehouse on central ave in Madison would be my rec

        1. Thanks all - kids held out for usual. Star Tavern Don't blame them!

          1. I'm a little late to this discussion, but have tried around 80 different slices in the area within the last 6 months and wanted to add my 2 cents to this thread. As Bropaul stated, the pizza in this area is especially ordinary. In fact I'd go a step further and say that most places are crappy, and, if you're lucky, you can find a place that's good, but Morris County doesn't have a place that's great. I've heard great things about Reservoir Tavern (Parsippany), but it's not a pure NY style pizza, and thus not up my alley.

I still have a long list of places to try (Firehouse sounds interesting. Does Nonna's do slices?), but out of the long list that I have sampled, a couple have risen to the top. Like I said, nothing great, but, imo, a little better than most. It was only one slice, and I need another trip back for confirmation, but Pomodoro (Morristown), was better than I expected. Much better than Pete's a few doors down- which isn't really saying much as Pete's a shell of what it used to be during the 80s, when it was trading best in area awards with Suvios.

Angelos in Parsippany (rt 46) also isn't bad. He uses a rolling pin and a screen (the horror!), but the sauce is one of the best I've found in the area. If anyone goes there, I recommend requesting more sauce.

The other thing that I wanted to share is the super obvious recommendation to ignore urbanspoon and yelp. Dominicks (Morristown address, but really Harding/Bernardsville) gets top ratings on urbanspoon and it's one of the worst pizzas I've ever tasted. It's shoe leather.

Nonna's does do slices and they absolutely obliterate anyone in Morristown or Morris Plains. Reservoir Tavern really is fantastic and you should try it.

For downtown MoTown I prefer Morris Pizzeria to Suvio's for slices. Suvio's Calzones are ok. Milano was crap and so is Anthony's off the Green. Will have to try Pomodoro.
