Citron

Hello, Chows. Is there anywhere in the GTA (or even outside of it) that has fresh citron for sale? I candy citrus peel for my baking, but have yet to find good quality candied citron and would, preferably, like to make my own. The product sold in grocery and bulk stores is not an option. Every year, various recipes I have call for candied citron peel, and every year I sub in other citrus. If anyone can help me find this fruit, I'd be very appreciative.

I'm pretty sure I saw citrons at T&T a long time ago, but certainly not recently.

This probably isn't helpful for this year's baking, but perhaps next year you could stock up around the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. Citrons have a ceremonial use - just look for the signs advertising "etrog" as you drive North on Bathurst. They aren't cheap, being destined for holiday usage, but perhaps you could find a blemished one.

Thanks, gimel. I'll have to remember that for next year.

I buy citron every holiday season in Kensington Market from a place on Baldwin Street west of 190 and on the same side of the street. They have it in large containers and it's quite soft and fresh tasting. Right beside the woman who sells all the dried fruit.

Just giving this thread a bump.

Has anyone seen fresh citron/etrog for sale? I really don't want to miss it this year.

        Thanks!
