Best Fish & Chips in Philly Burbs?

A request from fellow CHers: where can I find really classic fish & chips in the Philly Burbs? I've had really solid ones in Haddonfield at the British Chip Shop, but looking for something a little closer (Western Burbs, specifically)? Any suggestions??

  1. Have you been to the Whip Tavern. I find them quite good there. I also like the Ship Inn in Milford NJ.

    1. +1 for the Whip Tavern"s Fish & Chips. BTW great burgers too! A bit of a drive through wonderful horse country please be aware they are closed on Tuesdays!

Agreed. The Whip is authentic pub food. Good F+C. Guinness doesn't taste quite right to me there though. Admittedly it never tastes right on this side of the Atlantic.

Anything good that's closer to Montco than Coatesville?

+1 for the Fish at Forest and Main... My issue is with the chips. They have ranged from string potatoes to large "steak fry" type chips. It seems there is no consistency and they allow the prep cooks to decide what they are doing. So Caveat. Fish is very good light batter. Portion is not huge but high quality.

      2. Haven't been in a while but Stoney's on 202 north of Wilmington had great fish and chips.

        1. Best fish and chips on the planet is at The Dandelion -- not in the burbs, but sooooo worth the trip!

Molly McGuire's in Phoenixville has decent Fish & Chips.

Good point. There is also one on Main Street in Lansdale.

I'm told Shellfish Sue's, also on Main Street in Lansdale, also has very good fish & chips.

SS does have good fish and chips but (at least the one time I was there) portions are very small.
